Q.
I'm a new patient and would like to know how I can make my first appointment at Burke Dental Center as smooth as possible.
A.
We always look forward to welcoming our new patients and making their new experience at Burke Dental Center as comfortable as possible.
We usually can provide all new patient details over the phone, however generally speaking,
if you had X-rays taken recently in the past year, you may request them from your old dentist and bring them along with you.
These X-rays have to be of diagnostic quality. The majority of our patients get new X-rays taken at their initial visit.
Please come in 15 minutes before your first appointment to complete our patient registration form - or for your convenience, you may choose to
Q.
Does your office service other areas besides Burke VA?
A.
Ofcourse! We also serve patients from Fairfax VA, Springfield VA and other surrounding areas. No matter your specific location, we
strive to provide a great dental experience for all our patients! We want to become your dentist, Springfield VA and Fairfax VA areas are always welcome.
Q.
What usually occurs at my first appointment?
A.
Once the paper work is complete, we will review your medical history and take X-rays if needed.
When the X-rays have developed, Dr. Khan will review them and will listen to your concerns and expectations.
At this point Dr. Khan will proceed to a head, neck, and oral cancer exam (free of charge), followed by a periodontal exam where we take 6 readings of the gums on every tooth.
Finally we do a dental exam and check for cavities, cracked or stained teeth along with the existing fillings/crowns in the mouth.
Dr. Khan will then discuss his findings and provide answers to any questions you may have, and specific services can then be provided.
If you are coming in for an emergency, we will usually take an X-ray of the affected area and address the problem quickly.
Q.
How can I learn more about my insurance benefits and eligibility at your office?
A.
We will gladly check your insurance benefits and eligibility for you. Please give us a call,
and we will determine your eligibility criteria based on your information.
You will also be pleased to know that we offer financing options for our patients, please review our
insurance page to learn more.
Q.
How does sedation dentistry work, is it safe?
A.
Oral sedation provides a relaxed dental experience for patients who have been putting off necessary dental work due to anxiety.
You can learn more about our application of sedation on the Oral Sedation page.
Oral sedation provides a comfortable and safe experience for patients. Oral sedation dentists that have been certified by the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation (as has Dr. Khan), have completed an estimated 1 million successful sedation procedures over the past six years. Dr. Khan and staff will review your specific medical history to make sure that the application of oral sedation does not adversely interact with any health condition or use of medication.
Q.
I've heard that a healthy mouth can positively affect my overall health.
What's the connection?
A.
The state of your oral health can offer lots of clues about your overall health.
Since the indicators of some diseases first show up in your mouth, a visit to the dentist can lead to the awareness of such issues, providing you the ability to prevent the adverse condition from furthering itself.
In some cases, infections in your mouth, such as gum disease, can cause problems in other areas of your body. When your gums are healthy, bacteria in your mouth usually don't enter your bloodstream. However, gum disease may provide bacteria a port of entry into your bloodstream. Periodontal disease commonly known as "bone and gum disease" is the leading cause of tooth loss. Like other systemic diseases such as high blood pressure and diabetes, periodontal disease can only be controlled and not cured. The prevention of periodontal disease may also decrease the chance of heart disease. At the Burke Dental Center, we can provide you with the knowledge and means to a healthy set of teeth and gums, a healthy mouth, and a beautiful smile! |
